Things to Do
Birding
Birding opportunities abound throughout the park with the marina and dam areas the best to observe waterfowl and the occasional visits from the Bald Eagles and Osprey. The campground trails and golf course areas offer woodlands as well as a few open fields to observe the Wild Turkey, Grouse, Dove, Woodpeckers, Warblers and Cardinals throughout the year. Campers can enjoy the night-time songs of the Whip-Poor Will during the summer camping season.
Seasonal spring/summer visitors include the Hummingbirds, Purple Martins, Robins and a variety of migrating birds. Wintertime visitors include the American Gold Finch family.
Boating
The park hosts two launch ramps (one at the marina, one at the campground) for better access to the lake. Yatesville Lake is well known for its cleanliness. The average depth of the lake is 40 feet.
Camping
Relax in the scenic lakeside setting of the park's 47 site campground. Opened in 1999, the campground also has 16 "boat in" sites and four "hike in" sites. The "boat in" sites are accessible only by boat, for secluded lakeside camping. The campground also has a playground, nature trails, laundry room, restrooms & showers, and a dump station.
The campground was named among the best campgrounds in Kentucky and Tennessee by the Menasha Ridge Press. Other facilities at the park include the Yatesville Lake Golf Course and pro shop, one picnic shelter, and a playground.
Open mid-March through mid-November.
Fishing
An ADA-compliant fishing jetty and lagoon may be found at the marina, which has a terrific boat dock and a store that sells gas, groceries, bait, fishing equipment, and souvenirs. A Kentucky Fishing License is required. Click here to purchase a license online at KY Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
Golf
Yatesville Lake State Park is proud to present the Yatesville Lake Golf Course, an 18 hole, par 71 delight, built on mountainous terrain, features dramatic views. The course also houses a fully-equipped pro shop to provide for golfers' needs such as food & drink, souvenir items, rental clubs, and golfing equipment. Golf packages and season passes are offered. Tee time reservations are accepted. Open year round. For more info on this course CLICK HERE.
Hiking
There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors on several trails for all levels. The 2-mile Pleasant Ridge Trail is near the campground, and the 2.5-mile Mary Ingles Trail system is near the marina with a variety of choices from rugged wooded hiking to exercise paths, and even an ADA self-interpretive nature trail.
The Yatesville Lake Multi-Use Trail is a large 20+ mile trail, open to hikers, backpackers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders.
Picnicking
Yatesville Lake has one picnic shelter. A playground area, horseshoe pit, and corn hole are located in the nearby campground. Reservations for the shelter are accepted up to one year in advance.
