3. Stroll through the small trails and bridges on the grounds and make sure the kids visit the playground.
4. Explore two beautiful tranquil flower and herb gardens, the learning garden and hemp plot.
5. Plan your private event or wedding on the park grounds or in the park barn.
Antebellum house in Lexington, also known as the Joseph Bryan estate, includes three original outbuildings - slave quarters, smokehouse and ice house. Guided tours of Waveland historic site focus on the everyday lives of the family and the enslaved people who lived and worked at Waveland in the 1850s. If you’re interested in this venue for a wedding or reception, or simply need group rates, please contact Waveland State Historic Site.
Photographers
Please note that there is a yearly photography pass for professional photographers. You may purchase your passes at the cabin during normal business hours. The pass is good for the year. Photography sessions will not be allowed during our special events.
Please understand that if you are doing special sessions that include published photography or video, you will need to get approval from Parks. Please email susanv.miller@ky.gov or call the park at (859) 272-3611 for questions.

Things to Do
Tea Tuesday at Waveland
Reservations are required for this fun featured attraction. Teas are mainly each Tuesday. Special teas are scheduled for December and other times throughout the year. Teas end after the last special Christmas tea and will resume the week of Valentine’s Day. Check calendar for special tea events. For reservations call 859-272-3611.
Gardens
Explore two beautifully maintained Lexington Garden Club gardens which includes a perennial garden and an herb garden. Growing comes to life in the Waveland Learning Garden. Always a favorite for families to explore with their children.
Trail
For a quiet stroll, explore the old mill house structure, foot bridges, natural spring, pond and quaint .25 mile trail.
Gift Shop
Opens April 1, 2022 – October 31, 2022. Closed October 30, 2022 - April 1, 2023 (Please note that gift shop will be open during all special park events and is also available by appointment when park is closed)
Museum
Please note that the Waveland Museum is closed October 31, 2022 and will reopen for tours April 1, 2023. Tours are available by appointment when closed. Please see calendar for special tours and events.
Picnicking
Enjoy a picnic lunch on the lawn of Waveland, surrounded by the beautiful Lexington countryside. Picnic tables, 2 charcoal grills and a playground are provided for your comfort and enjoyment.
Playgrounds
A playground is located near the picnic area.
Tours
Tour guide will greet you at the mansion and share with you the historical treasures of Waveland and the Bryan family. The tour also includes the outbuildings, where guests learn about the life of enslaved people in Kentucky. Tours are available by appointment from January through March. Group tours available upon request.

Tickets should be purchased at the cabin gift shop.

Grounds are open year round. Please note that occasionally the grounds are closed for special events and during inclement weather.
