Jefferson Davis State Historic Site is a memorial to the Kentuckian born on this site on June 3, 1808. The monument is a 351-foot obelisk constructed on a foundation of solid Kentucky limestone. An elevator takes visitors to the top for a bird's eye view of the countryside. A museum on the grounds provides visitors with a bit of insight into this leader's fascinating life. Davis may be best known for his service as President of the Confederacy during the Civil War but the popular West Point graduate also had a distinguished military career before serving as a congressman and senator.

Gift Shop

Here you will find many hard to find Civil War items like books on Kentucky battle fields, soldiers and the Kentucky Orphan Brigade. Also tee shirts souvenir caps, Confederate and Union replica money, magnets, postcards, a wide selection of shot glasses and coffee cups. The gift shop carries replicas of the Emancipation Proclamation, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Gettysburg Address and other Civil War books related items.

Museum
Our visitor's center features exhibits detailing Davis' political life before and after the Civil War and the building of the monument. Also told is the little known story of the Kentucky "Orphan Brigade."
