This peaceful setting, just south of Eddyville, Kentucky, on the shores of Lake Barkley is historically linked to the author F. Scott Fitzgerald. The featured property was once the farm of Willis B. Machen, grandfather of Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald. It’s not hard to imagine the serene, Gatsby-style era from this park, with idyllic days of playing golf and cruising the lake.
Things to Do
Birding
Bird watching is difficult on Mineral Mound State Park because it is primarily a golf course, but golfers might observe osprey, variety of duck, crane, gull, pelican, eagle, hawk, and finch while playing. Blue birds are also abundant due to park efforts placing bluebird boxes.
Boating
Launch your pleasure or fishing boat onto Lake Barkley from Mineral Mound Launching Ramp. Open year-round.
Fishing
Enjoy fishing from the pier. Open year-round. A Kentucky Fishing License is required. Click here to purchase a license online at KY Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
Golf
This is a challenging 18-hole golf course. Many of the front 9 holes are flanked by lake views and the back 9 holes are situated in a wooded area. A pro shop offers rental carts, clubs, golf merchandise, beer and snack food. Open year round, weather permitting. For more info about this course CLICK HERE.
Picnicking
Enjoy a picnic in pleasant surroundings in the Mineral Mound picnic area. Open year-round.
