Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park Trails
Campers Trace Trail
.2 mile linear trail, provides access to and from lodge for campground guests, alternative route to main road, trailhead across from camp store, outlet is near park entrance, rated easy.
Cane Trail
1.3 miles loop/linear trail , trailhead at end of Cottage Loop, named for patches of wild cane that occur streamside, moderately steep ascent to upland forest ridge, descends to lower elevations through a stand of loblolly pines, descends to lake level and intersects with Lake trail, bear left to return to Cottage Loop trailhead, rated moderately strenuous.
Clifty Creek Trail
.25 mile linear/looped trail, trailhead located across from golf course entrance, shagbark hickory, tulip poplar and giant sycamores all found along trail, dense vegetation, abundant wildflowers in spring and summer, small waterfall, ascends to outlet along Cottage Rd., hikers may bear left to golf course entrance trailhead, or left to lodge and pool area, rated easy.
Indian Bluff Trail
.25 mile linear trail, trailhead located near lodge parking area, moderately steep climb at beginning levels off for comfortable walking, native oak-hickory trees, trail passes the only natural arch in park called "Indian Window", passes natural limestone dwellings, descends to valley floor ending near gold course entrance, rated easy.
Lake Trail
1.8 miles, trailhead near lower parking area, travels around lake, up stone steps to bluff line, remote shelter at intersection of Lake & Pennyroyal Trails, wooden bridges and hand hewn steps.
Macedonia Trail
6.5 miles, hiking and mountain biking, series of loops, lengths ranging from 1.4-4.5 miles, pass through many pinestands, trailhead located across from Macedonia cemetery, rated easy. This trail system is located on Pennyrile State Forest. The trails are not maintained by park staff.
Pennyrile Nature Trail
13.5 mile linear trail, stretches to Tradewater River and Dawson Springs, trailhead located in the middle of Indian Bluff trail, winds north along several bluffs with scenic overlooks, trail can be hiked in sections, rated moderately difficult. Only 1.5 miles of this trail are located on Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park. The remainder of the trail is on Pennyrile State Forest and Tradewater Wildlife Management Area. The trail is maintained by Hopkins County Jail Community Service Crew in the early spring and fall.
Pennyroyal Trail
1.4 mile looped trail, trailhead located atop sandstone steps along secondary bluffline overlooking the beach, bear right after passing wooden shelter and move upstream into deeper woodlands, oak-hickory forest gives way to mixed hardwood forest, crests at ridgetop and quickly descends to intersect Lake Trail at another remote wooden shelter, bear right to return to beach/boat dock area and trailhead, rated moderately strenuous.
Thompson's Hollow Trail
.1 mile linear trail, trailhead located at campground picnic area, descend steep grade of sandstone bluff to series of steps constructed by W.P.A. laborers in the 1930s, rated moderately strenuous.
